Purpose-built mountain bike trails on a working family farm.

Come Ride
The trails at Fourth and Forward Farm are purpose built mountain bike trails. They are directional to ensure no user conflicts. Most climbs are logging roads to enjoy the pedal with friends. The descents are designed to progress skills. Blue jump lines. Black tech with speed and Driftless chunk.
Fourth and Forward Farm will be open to the public on weekends during the summer of 2026. There will be two sessions per day and the number of riders is limited to 15 per session. You must reserve a time slot and sign a waiver before riding.
Black tech with speed and Driftless chunk.

FAQs
The Trails
Why do I need to sign up?
We want to make sure everyone’s experience is a good one. A good experience not only for riders, but also for those who call Butterfield Valley home. We want to be good neighbors.
Why is Sign up limited?
This is a private family farm- not a city or state park. We are also not a dedicated bike park. The trails were designed to give the rider a certain experience, not to simply maximize the number or people who can be out at one time. Finally, we have obligations to keep people safe. Limiting signup and ensuring riders have waivers signed allows us to do that.
Can I ride any bike?
Fourth and Forward is ridden best on mid to big travel bikes, even DH bikes! The minimum rear travel we suggest is 150 if you’re wanting to have a blast on everything we offer!
Will Forth and Forward be open it it rains?
Nope! Our trails are heavy clay and quite slick when wet. It’s a mess. We’d rather close it down for 1 day than need to invest significantly in maintenance.
Can I hike on the trails?
Nope. Hiking on bike trails is strictly forbidden. There are many great parks in the region to explore by foot.
Can I bring my drone?
Nope! For the safety and privacy of other rippers, drones will not be permitted for guest use.
Are e-bikes allowed?
Absolutely! Class 1 E-bikes are allowed.
Are there trails my whole family can ride?
I guess that depends- how skilled is your family? But seriously, our trails are not for beginners. We have progressive trails, but our tails are designed for experienced mountain bikers. Other trails in the region might be a better choice if you’re still new to mountain biking.
Are there mandatory features?
Yes, but they are marked and only found on black and double black diamond trails. Our blue trails will have feature ride arounds.
Can I coach or give private lessons at the park?
Nope! Private lessons and coaching could result in a permanent ban from the Park. No one wants that.
The Farm
Can bring my dog?
Nope. There are local dogs that call this place home. They are old and don’t need to make new friends.
WiFi?
We’re working on it!
Can I pet the cows?
Absolutely not. They are not pets. We have worked hard with the rancher to get fencing right. If you are close enough to pet a cow, you’re not in the right place.
Do you have camping?
We don’t offer camping most weekends. On event weekends we love having people camp! There is great camping in La Crosse- Pettibone Campground and Goose Island Campground and Wildcat Landing and Campground in Brownsville.
Water and Bathrooms?
There is a tap for potable water. There is a single Port-a-Potty at the farm. We are hoping to provide full facilities in the years to come.
